The Pattern
The digital pen writes on ordinary paper printed with a
unique
pattern that is almost invisible to the naked eye: the
only difference from a traditional paper is a grey shade
on the paper.
This special paper allows the pen to identify it and
conveys with precision to the pen how to recognize the
handwritten information.
Anoto pattern is made up of tiny dots placed above an orthogonal grid. There are four possible offsets for each
dot: above, left, right and below: an area of 6x6 dots
gives a unique position.
The pattern is organized in segments which are divided in shelves which in turn are divided in books and pages.
The end user sees a page and that page can be related to other pages in a more complex form. This gives a great flexibility when creating applications.
The pattern can be printed on any paper using standard
printing process.
